Ms Bathabile Dlamini is the Minister of Social Development of the Republic of South Africa since November 2010 and a member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC). She became a member of National Executive Committee of the ANC as well as the National Working Committee in 2007 and she was part of the formation of the progressive Women's Movement of South Africa in 2007. Prior to the appointment as a Minister, Bathabile was a Deputy Minister of Social Development from May 2009 to October 2010. Ms Dlamini has also given a voice to many women who experienced violence. She was Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Gender Based Violence which led the roll-out of the Gender-Based Violence Command Centre- a 24-hour call centre dedicated to providing support and counselling to victims of gender based violence. Since its launch in March 2014, it has received a number of recognition awards both locally and abroad.
